Sugar Fasts

Since I've had little Logan, I've decided to try to be healthier.  Since I couldn't work out right away after having Logan, I decided to start with something small.  I made a goal to eat more fruits and veggies, and I have been doing it by drinking green smoothies everyday.

It's amazing how much energy I get from these green smoothies.  I usually make a big pitcher's worth in the morning, and either have some of it for breakfast and save the rest for snacks.  Sometimes I have oatmeal or eggs for breakfast and then I just drink the smoothie as my snacks.

I am proud to say that I drink about 6 cups of green smoothie a day, and I absolutely love it!  I started a candy fast after Easter as well, to try to curb how much candy I eat.  I am doing a great job of staying away from candy.  Two weeks ago, I stepped back from eating ice cream and other frozen treats (besides smoothies).  And on Wednesday, I am starting to cut out all snack cakes, cookies, brownies, bars and anything else that is a sweet baked good.  It will be difficult--- I LOVE baking, but I've realized that I really need to focus on eating better.  I love working out and exercising, but I have always struggled with my diet when I try to lose weight.  I will probably try to reintroduce some of these things a little bit at a time, but I really want to try to break the habit!

I'm starting to realize that I am in control of myself and my moods---food doesn't determine my happiness and it doesn't control me.  I have had more self control in the last few weeks than I thought was possible considering how much I LOVE sugar.  I have such a sweet tooth.  I've also realized that if I don't do so well on one day, it's okay.  It doesn't give me an excuse to completely binge or go off my plan.  I just have to keep going.  I'd eventually like to get to the point where I eat very minimal sugar, unless I make myself a treat, but I honestly have realized that I have to break the addiction that I have before I do that.  I also don't want to use asparteme or any other nasty chemically produced sugar replacement either.

We're also trying to eat fish more often (once a week); drink more water; eat out less; and exercise more often.  Starting in July/August I am going to cut out FAST FOOD!  This will be so hard for us, because there are some days where I have such a hard time getting dinner on the table because of how crazy the boys are, but I know that we can do it.  Here's to a healthier body, more energy, and a happier lifestyle.  :)

  1. You are doing awesome! I have to just not even buy the candy or ice cream or else I will eat it. Good luck with the fast food, dinner is so much harder to get on the table when you have such a little baby.
