Family DC Trip

Evan and his auntie Sarah.

As a part of Rick's in-processing here on post (base) is going to the First Term Airman Center.  He was there for a week when his teacher told them that on Monday they would be able to go to DC on a field trip and families were highly encouraged to attend.  The point of the trip was to teach them how to read maps, use the metro, buy their fare, and generally find their way around DC via public transportation.  We took the MARC train (not a big fan, mainly because of the prices) into Union Station, had lunch and then we took the Metro and walked to the White House.  Then our guide took us to the Washington Monument on the Mall and showed all of us where the monuments were and where the museums were.  Then she told us "have fun and don't get lost" and we split off.

We went to the American History Museum because our friend Travis wanted to see the Pop Culture History exhibit.  I'm okay with American History, so we went there while we waited for my sister Sarah, who was getting off work to meet up with us.  I just love history.  The exhibit we went to was the US Military History exhibit, so it was on all the wars we've had so far.  We took a few pictures,  met up with Sarah, and then walked to the World War II monument.  After that, we hit the Metro, went to Union Station, ate at Johnny Rockets and made a our train (yay!  we were nervous about missing it) back out to Maryland.
In front of the White House.  They wouldn't let us get up close until all the people left.

Giving a cheesy smile for the camera.

Myself in front of one of my favorite historical paintings.  Doesn't Evan look thrilled?

Right after we took the above picture.  I guess Evan doesn't like history as much as I do!

This will probably be the first of many trips for our family into DC.  Since we live so close, we should probably take advantage of it, right?  And, speaking of taking advantage of being in an awesome area, we're going to be seeing the Barcelona v. Manchester United soccer match in DC in the end of July.  So excited!  Woo-hoo for living in an area that actually has stuff around!

  1. That's really fun. I was really glad that they have a local tour as part of FTAC. It helped us to find our way around much better. Glad you are enjoying Maryland. I'm still bummed you aren't in HI though.
