Our next base assignment is: Wright-Patterson in Dayton, Ohio. Which I was really taken aback about. We were at Rick's drop night, and they did a fun survivor theme on the beach.
I was expecting Florida or Texas or Maryland or Virginia or even to stay in Mississippi (shudder). Rick got his drop, and it was to this base.
And I was like, "What? Ohio?"
Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing on Ohio. I just have no idea anything about the state except it's a swing state when it comes to voting and a few other little things about the state. I mean, I confused Dayton with Daytona and thought we could see some car races (cause that sounds like fun *sarcasm*)
Anyways, I'm really excited for it now. I feel like it's where we're supposed to be. AFIT, which is the graduate school for the Air Force is there, and I think Rick is going to do his best to take advantage of living close and going there.
Also, the school districts in the area are really good, from what I've been reading, which is excellent for Evan, who has an IEP and I really would like him in a place with a good pre-k program.
There's a lot of outdoors stuff to do and state parks around, plus professional sports teams that play only an hour or so away. (NHL and MLS, so I'm set).
We've heard really wishy-washy things about the base housing, (especially the management), so it will be our very first time living off base. The cost of living is a lot lower than anywhere else we've lived (that I am seeing, at least), and we're hoping to find somewhere nice to live that's an affordable price.
We still have a while. Rick got the job/assignment that he really wanted, but it means that his job will be more technical than just leadership, so he has two more months additional training after he graduates in July. We're not sure when he'll get into that class, but looking at the time frame, the earliest we'll probably be out of here is October, and the latest will be December.
We're not looking forward to the cold. We're so not used to that. We lived in Maryland, but it was such a mild winter, with the snow never sticking for long. I've got a feeling that the snow will stick in Ohio!
But I am excited about having to buy cute winter clothes (an absolute must, right?)
We've got a few places and things we're planning on going to. Cedar Point, King's Island, the temple, a Blue Jackets game, a Columbus Crew game, this awesome looking bookstore in Columbus, and the Renaissance Fair. Since we'll be there between 2-3 years, I think we'll have time. Plus, I have a feeling most of our fun times we'll be from April to November. It will be too cold for us!

Nana and Poppa Visit
My parents came to visit us this past week. The boys loved having their Nana and Poppa to pay attention to them the entire time. And Nana and Poppa loved being with them. The boys recognized them immediately, even though it's been a while. I am going to say it's because of skype. We skype with them every Sunday, and the boys always run (or in Logan's case, waddle) over to see them on the computer.
Anyways, Friday my parents showed up and we went to Beauvoir, which is where Jefferson Davis lived after the Civil War. It was a really neat house and area, small but a beautiful view of the gulf/swamp that is Biloxi beach.
On Saturday, we headed to Gulf Shores, Alabama. My dad wanted to stand in the gulf to compare the water temperature to the Pacific. And I told him that the Biloxi water was gross, so we went to Gulf Shores instead. We got stuck in traffic on the way, so it was a little bit longer than we wanted it to be. But, I think everyone enjoyed the beach once we got there. Of course, it was super duper hot at the beach still. Thankfully nobody got fried by the sun too badly.
On Sunday we went to church and then just relaxed when we came home.
On Monday, Evan headed to his soccer camp for the first day (it only lasted 2 days...it was pretty horrible). After the soccer camp, we relaxed and then went to a quilt shop. On my parent's trips my mom stops at as many quilt shops along the way to buy fabric and visit. We then went out to dinner, which was an adventure. We were going to go to the favorite seafood place that is super yummy. But, whoops, the local place is not open on Mondays.
We then took mom and dad to our very favorite place to eat here, Sicily's which is this super good pizza and Italian buffet. Yummy.
We were so happy that my parents could visit with us. The boys and I miss them so much!

Evan had to take kitty cat with him, of course. |
I look horrible, but it was the only pic of Evan running/standing up on the field. |
See, the rest of the time he just sat down or laid on the field. |

Day 31: A Vivid Memory
I actually have a lot of vivid memories.
The most recent vivid memory: Giving birth to Logan. I remember so many details that I didn't remember when I had Evan. I remember how amazing I felt after having my little baby. I remember that I had the strongest feeling that we were supposed to have another baby join our family too. (At this point, I wasn't sure how many we were going to have!) I remember the doctor, and nurses talking to me. I remember that Logan was so tiny, and he had very little hair.
t was such a sweet, happy feeling. And that's all I remember. I guess I need to write down stuff that happens more often. :)

Day 30: Letting Go--A Reaction
One of the hardest things for me to do is to let go of the things that I can't control. I'm a planner. And I like to have things organized. I want to know what's happening in our lives.
I am learning though, that is definitely so not possible. Things happen in our lives that we don't expect, and it's not what we're going through that defines us, but how we react to the situations that we're put in. I've been having an especially hard time right now with the military, my body, and my health.
Lately I've been having annoying health issues. Never anything serious, but small things that put me back for a while. I'm also learning that I need to be grateful for the body that I have, and instead of being focused on "losing weight", I should instead just try to do my best to remember that the body I have houses my spirit, and I should try my best to keep myself as healthy as possible.
Letting go also means forgiving myself and others their mistakes and sins. I know that when you let go of the things that tie us down, we will have so much more freedom and peace in our lives. Letting go of grudges, and trying to find the best in others, will help us feel not only better about others, but about ourselves as well.
Letting go means that no matter what, you don't let anything stand in the way of what you want. Let go of all the things that hold me back, that aren't necessary, or uplifting, and I will find myself in a better situation than before.
Those are a few of the things that "letting go" means to me! Only 1 more post to go!

Day 29: Music and Memories
Socco Amaretto Lime--Brand New http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LE1Bd_wX1M
This song just reminds me of college. I vividly remember sitting in a friends car when this song came on right before another friend of mine turned 19. We cranked this up and were singing it at the top of our lungs. And, that was the first time I had ever heard it. And, I have grown tired of it.
Invierno--Reik http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47G1ZxcBYEc
This is mine and Rick's song. It's a beautiful song, especially if you understand Spanish! If you don't you can always google the lyrics in English, and it is still pretty, but not quite the same.
Richard Corey--Simon and Garfunkel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asqQGVu940E
Simon and Garfunkel are one of my favorite music groups of all time. I loved listening to them while growing up, and this is one of my favorite songs by them. It's actually from a poem, and the reason why I like it so much is that it is a reminder that things aren't always what they appear to be, and money isn't everything.
Defying Gravity--Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlMBcTGJ4YM
Just a reminder that you can do defy gravity. Or at least try to. :) I just really, love, love, love this song.
Our Savior's Love--- (I don't have the hymn on me to see who wrote it, but I do love this version by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZW3sj2TKsw
This is my favorite hymn to sing in church. I have a lot of favorites, but this is definitely one that gives me chills every time it is sung by a choir or by the congregation during Sacrament Meeting. Even when I have my kids going crazy, this songs just brings such peace and love to my heart. Love it.
